Back in Action

Since I've been at Syracuse, blogging has opened a lot of doors for me. At first I found myself detached from writing and stressing out about everything. It didn't take me long to realize that I needed to set time aside to write, and this would make everything better. I'm constantly surrounded by schoolwork, but I always set aside time to get involved with writing. My friends are always asking me how I manage extracurriculars on top of schoolwork, but I think it's necessary to be doing something you enjoy in the midst of difficult work and stress. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, so why not take every shot you can?
Some weeks I forget to update FIF and add new posts, but everyday I use the skills and talk about the things this blog has taught me. I've extended my writing to Syracuse's school newspaper, The Daily Orange, and had my first article published today. It wasn't really a big deal, a spotlight on a weekend event, but I'm excited nonetheless. I've also been writing health stories for What the Health Magazine, and beauty bits for Zipped Magazine. Needless to say, I've gotten involved at school and everything relates back to this blog.
It's fun to spread my ideas and writing across such a large campus. If you're a college student, getting involved is so rewarding. How cliché of me to say, but it's true. The point I'm making is that without going to tons of fashion events in Boston and collaborating with local brands and being near a city, I fell into a slump. And honestly, all it took was my mother buying me a Vogue (thanks, mom) to get me out of it. Flipping through the pages and gazing at all of the breathtaking editorials gave me endless inspiration, and I felt the urge to blog and send in pitches to the publications I'm involved in. It's like all I needed was a jumpstart, and I was back at it again. Sure, I'm not updating the blog as often because college is the epitome of time consuming, but I'm getting there.
No matter where you are or what you do, it's important to take chances and search for things that inspire you. I'm telling you, the November issue of Vogue was a game-changer for me, and now all is right. I'm excited about all of my work and I can't wait to share it with friends and family when I return home in a week.
I hope this update didn't bore you, I just needed to pour out what my experiences with writing and blogging have been since being away. Dig deep, indulge in the things you love and breathe -- you'll find inspiration to do whatever it is that you enjoy. And in the midst of stress, take a chance. It could make your day, and you'll never know if you don't try.
If I can survive in the emptiness of Central New York, you can do anything.
xx, ZM

  1. Love this post Zoe! I totally agree that sometimes something so small can inspire you and change everything. Don't forget to take some time to write for yourself! I hope you're enjoying college life at Syracuse:)

    1. Thanks, Allie! It's so true, I had to find my way back into the swing of things. It looks like you're having an amazing time in London. I love all of your pictures! :)
