Through My Lens

Last week I made one of the biggest purchases ever, I bought a new camera! I sprung for a Nikon Coolpix P510 [if that means anything to anybody] and I absolutely love it. I tested it out around the house and I thought I'd share some of my photos with you since they're related to fashion. So here are a few photos with some of my most fashionable and beloved belongings.
So there's a peek into some of my favorites.
Thank you, new Nikon.

Hello, Hi-Lo Dresses

Yes, hi-lo is what you think it is. It means high and low. This summer, hi-lo dresses are super chic and super easy to shop for. First let me explain what makes this kind of dress different. We all know maxi dresses, right? If you answered no then you're definitely in the wrong place. Anyhow, a hi-lo dress is a maxi dress but shorter in the front and longer in the back. The length usually changes at an angle. It's very flattering on all body types so there are no excuses, ladies. Hi-los look great with a pair of chic platforms or wedges, and they can even look fabulous with flats. Talk about a simple and wearable trend.

Hi-los can be worn both formally and casually, it's really the shoes and accessories that will dress it up or down. They're also the perfect mix of long and short. Some people may not like full maxi dresses, so a hi-lo is kind of a "happy medium" per se between a maxi and a shorter ensemble. Personally, I love hi-los and I can't wait to wear my new one on vacation next week! I'm almost positive I'll be wearing it with my favorite pair of wedges, but I could decide to wear flats at the last minute. It's all about preference because both types of shoe will look great. Really, it's like any dress. If the shoe matches, wear it. But if it doesn't, step away! How's that for a little briefing on hi-los? They're flowy, they're fashionable and they're summer's favorite kind of dress. Hop on the style bandwagon and get one for yourself! The pictured dresses are from, but H&M, Forever 21, Francesca's Collections, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's all have hi-los -- you can really find them anywhere. Start your search today, take a style risk and fall in love with this trend. Best of luck!
We all have highs and lows, but we all should have hi-los.

Fashion [event] Flashback

Allow me to take you back to May... I was lucky enough to attend the official release event of the Tiffany & Co. Rubedo metal collection. A number of Boston bloggers and I were all amazed at the detailed jewelry in the collection and wanted, well, just about everything. I couldn't help but show up in my favorite mint green, cropped skinnies and beachy wedges. It was a fun, chic evening and I can't thank Tiffany & Co. enough for the experience and the timeless gift I was given.
Two RUBEDO collection pieces courtesy of my blogger colleague, Alana.
Leanne, JulieSarah, and myself with our fabulous gifts.
And in case you were wondering, my beachy wedges + cropped mint skinnies combo.
Tiffany & Co. Boston has an amazing PR and marketing staff that I couldn't be more grateful to work with on occasion. I want to thank them all for this opportunity! I'm such a Tiffany's girl, so it was a perfect night. Sparkling water, chocolate covered oreos and lots of jewelry -- aren't you sad that you weren't there? I would be, too. Looking back, it was what made May such a great month. There's nothing better than a chic, fun-filled event. I say someone should hold a Breakfast at Tiffany's!
I'm a sucker for timeless jewels and little blue boxes.

Summer's Best Beauty Product

I'm not a makeup girl, I'll be the first to admit it. But mascara is a different story, it's my "drug of choice" as Oscar PR Girl says. I love a great mascara because eyelashes are very important to a woman's face. To go with this obsession of mine, I was sent a tube of 'Lash Genius' From Anastasia. It's a long-lasting waterproof mascara topcoat and it's a must for this summer. Wear it to the pool, the beach, to a sad movie, to a day at work -- anywhere. This stuff really works.
Anastasia has long been the definitive eye and brow expert for icons such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah as well as hip up-and-comers like Dianna Agron, Selena Gomez and Kristen Cavallari.  Anastasia’s make up plus approach always has the importance of skin care at the base of their clinically tested cosmetic formulas and has recently expanded into colors that match their superior standards for skincare based cosmetics. Anastasia Beverly Hills products have also been recently added to all Sephora stores in the United States.
This product is a first of its kind and will instantly waterproof and protect your everyday mascara. Lash Genius will also help to promote lash health by not making lashes brittle and easy to break or pull out like most waterproof mascaras tend to do. The product can also be used on false eyelashes locking in applied mascara and creating a luxurious, refreshed, more natural look.  It will also help to hold the false lashes on and make them look more natural like real lashes.
This product is great, I’d recommend it for women who want their mascara to stay on for an extended amount of time. It strengthens lashes, gives a glossy finish and guarantees your lashes will look as good all day as they did when you applied the serum. You can buy this product at Sephora stores and online! It's a great product to have in the summer, especially on hot days your mascara wouldn't normally last. Give your lashes a treat, try Lash Genius.
Batting your eyes has never looked better.

Summer Series | Let's Go to the Beach

Where else would the FIF summer blog series start other than the beach? Good question, I can't think of anywhere else either. Here's a teeny tiny overview of my day [and dinner] at the beach. What a great way to spend the longest day of the year.
We all have our favorite 'beach restaurants', right? If you answered no, I'm judging you. Today I ventured to the beach with my mom and brother and we ended up at Petey's beach bar in Rye, NH afterward. It's your typical beach bar/seafood joint and I can't ever get enough of the atmosphere. It's the epitome of summertime for me and because my family often goes there to eat, it's special to me. It'll always be a summer tradition. You can't say "let's go to the beach" without also meaning "let's go to Petey's".
You're probably sitting there saying what the heck does this have to do with fashion? Well, fashion -- not so much. But style, everything. The decor at Petey's is so beachy. There are buoys lining the building from old ships and they're all painted bright, summer colors. It's very appropriate for the setting. I couldn't help but snag my brother's phone earlier and beg to take a picture "for the blog". And after all, a beach trip without style points isn't a beach trip -- I had to stop and snap photos.
Cheers to spontaneous, beachy blog posts.

On Point

Ballet flats are my signature style. They're simple, they make a great staple and they're easy to include in any outfit. But there's one flat I've been shying away from and I don't know why -- the pointy flat. I've made myself a little promise to try them out because they're so fabulous and there's no reason not to like them! The pointy toe is classic and feminine and now, I'm addicted.
So what do you think? The shape of this type of flat is very versatile, and like I said, it's easy to incorporate into just about any outfit. There are a lot of chic options when it comes to pointy flats, and a lot of different ways to wear them. Wear these flats to school, work or even a night out. I mean it when I say they'll go with anything. Need I do more explaining? I'll leave the rest to you.
This trend is so on point.

June's Summer Style Steals

Who wouldn't want an outfit for under $100 this summer? Now that's a good steal, especially if you're shopping for designer or resort-eque clothing. Whether it be accessories, pants, dresses or tops, there's nothing better than a summer style steal. Say that ten times fast: summer style steal, summer style steal, summer style steal... I'm all done. But really, when you're at the mall and you're just looking to pick up something, look for deals because they're everywhere! I just ran into two great sales: J. Crew and Victoria's Secret. Sure those particular sales may be deadly for my wallet and I really don't need more shorts and bikinis (you're right, mom), but I feel better about my splurges if they're on sale items. And it can't only be me.

Sleeveless dress / MICHAEL Michael Kors michael kors jacket, $135 / Melissa Odabash bikini swimwear, $125 / Melissa Odabash bikini swimwear, $125 / Mango leather shopping bag, $315 / Couture jewelry / Tom Ford eyewear, $390

I want it all... From discounted sandals to jeans to dresses to bracelets, I'm picturing a whole new wardrobe for the summer and I need to snap out of it. I normally wouldn't pay through the nose for any of these things because I can't wear them year round, but now that they're on sale it's a lot more convenient to buy. That's what I love about summer sales because it isn't too long of a season, so why should we pay so much for clothes? So next time you're at the mall, keep 'summer style steals' in your head and remember to scan the sale rack before anything else because you might find something worth blogging [and bragging] about!
Happy shopping.

Happy Summer, Fashionistas

Happy summer, fashionistas. I know it's not "official" until the twenty-first, but oh well. I'm out of school so it's official to me! I can't wait to sit by the pool this week and head to the beach with a great book and just relax. There's nothing I love more than that. If I've been a little absent from the blog, blame my final exams for that. But like I said, it's summer and I'm finally back.
So, school's done and it's summer so now my priorities lay right here! Speaking of priorities, I have a few summer goals to share with you all. I'm in the market for a new camera because I want to start doing outfit posts like so many other bloggers. It'll introduce my style to everyone firsthand, and I think it will be a fun new chapter. I'd love some suggestions on which cameras other bloggers and even some of you readers use. I could use a little guidance. But my goal is to post every week day. That's right, five days a week, every week. It might be hard to keep up when I'm away, but I'll stick with it! This summer is going to be a chic, fun and productive one. Make goals and priorities for yourself and enjoy the sunny weather.
Never mind Friday, [T]hank [G]od [I]t's [S]ummer.

There's Something About Pink

There really is something about pink that I can't describe. It's a color with so many fabulous light and dark tones. There are soft pinks and dramatic pinks; each can be worn in so many ways. I love pink! When I was a little girl, I thought pink was the only color girls could like. I thought it was some kind of designated favorite color for little girls. I'd play around with my brother, who thought that blue was only for boys. How cute, right? So I guess I was a fashionista back then, too. But anyhow, pink is having its moment once again. Dark or "hot" pink is so chic this summer. It's a warm color, but light at the same time. It looks great on tops, trousers, accessories and makeup. It's a color with variety and boy, do I love variety.
Another great thing about this hue of pink is that it goes great with other colors. It's deep, yet bright and it's not too, too bold. Some may think it is, but I'd have to disagree. I love this color with orange. I just bought some great ikat printed shorts from gap with this deep pink color and orange, and I'm obsessed with them. Who doesn't love a girly color that goes with so many others? Tis the season for pink. I can't think of another color having a moment like pink's moment.
Think pink.

A Heartfelt Note [to My Followers]

This blog has become my everything, and without my followers, that wouldn't have been made possible. I get home every day, I check my blog stats and comments and it puts a smile on my face. Knowing that I'm able to help others unleash their creativity and style is such a rewarding feeling. Not to mention, I love it when I'm out and people say to me, "I love your blog, I read it all the time," or "you've got the best style". Like I said, it's rewarding to be complimented on something I love to do.
I'm a hard worker, and not much scares me. I was taught to go after things because things aren't going to come after me. I've always loved fashion and I've always had my own unique style. People ask me what triggered my love for fashion, and honestly, it's always been here with me. But what really brought it out is my mother. She's been taking me shopping my entire life and she'd listen to my input on which clothes she should buy. Honestly, she gave me confidence in how to be stylish. She'd let me borrow her InStyle magazine when I was younger, and I'd flip through the hundreds of pages and it was so blissful for me. She says that she took me to the mall when I was weeks old, and it all started then.
What can I say, I just love fashion. I've loved art forever, too. I used to draw so many things when I was a little girl, and there's a picture above my fireplace of myself sitting at a table on vacation on Martha's Vineyard, drawing on a sketchpad. I like to look up at it and think of how far my creativity and I have come. The best decision I ever made was going to and making Fashion is Freedom. I love sharing my style with all of you and I really just want to say thank you for reading weekly, daily, or whenever you come to FIF. It means a lot to me and just like my mom did when I was a little girl, it gives me confidence. I'm going to keep on pursuing my dreams in fashion and I'll never let go of this blog, it's become a part of me. The words "don't be like the rest of them, darling" are constantly on my mind. And don't worry, I won't be.
I think I like who I'm becoming.

Style du Jour: Mint Madness

Colors have always been a big part of fashion. Different colors pop up in all four seasons, and I always come to a love a color that I never thought I would. This spring/summer, I've learned to love mint. It's an easy color to wear whether your skin and hair is light or dark, and it's a very soft tone. Soft tones are perfect for warmer months because you can wear them outside and keep [somewhat] cool. Mint also matches many other colors, so it's not hard to add bold accessories and shoes. I've seen mint in blouses, khakis, dresses and jewelry, and I've loved it in every form. It's dressy and casual. I love the variety!
See, mint has a lot of opportunities to shine. It's a color that I didn't expect to catch on so fast, and I'm glad that I was wrong. I even love mint nail polish. This color was all over the runways last fall [in spring collections] and now it's all over the clothing racks in every store. And you know what, it didn't get too popular too fast, so it's still trendy. I like that it's under control.
Add a belt or even a lacy material over mint and you've got an instant hit. Even without these add ons, mint-colored chiffon dresses are simple, chic and sophisticated. Not to mention they're a personal favorite of mine. Pair a mint dress with the right shoes, preferable wedges but that's just my opinion, and you'll look like a superstar. And no, ladies, mint isn't just for young girls, it's for anyone! Since when has color been limited to one age group? Never. So drop that excuse, add some color to your wardrobe, and jump on the mint bandwagon that's sweeping the fashion world.
Remember, "The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”
